'Banjo' Bailey |
"Keepin' it real, mate!" |
Banjo reckons he's the first goalkeeper from Boat Harbour, Tasmania to play in the English Premiership. He joined South Melbourne youth academy and played for the Aussie under 19's, where he came to the attention of Terry Venables. When ‘El Tel’ took the reigns at Red Park he didn’t waste much time in securing the services of the Tasmanian stopper and Bailey has never looked back since.
Banjo is somewhat eccentric, but then goalkeepers usually are. Nobody can be sure but the rumour is that Banjo resides permanently in his precious camper van. Whilst it’s never been proved it is certainly true to say that he moves around a lot and has been discovered hanging out his washing in the Red Park Stadium car park on more than one occasion! His other interests include: surfing, playing guitar, birds of prey, and meteorology.
‘Banjo’ Bailey’s real first name is Lillian which he is reluctant to use for obvious reasons.
